2019 was a successful year for the Autostadt in Wolfsburg/Germany. More than two million people (2,113,000) visited the Volkswagen Group communications platform last year (2018: 2,279,000).

In February, the theme park welcomed its 40 millionth guest since its official opening in 2000.
Autostadt CEO Roland Clement: “The Autostadt clearly achieved its goals in 2019. More than two million enthusiastic visitors came to the theme park. Our new conference business has been highly successful since the opening of our Hafen 1 event location in June 2019 – and this has benefitted Volkswagen as well as the city of Wolfsburg and the Autostadt.”
Volkswagen’s first event in the new Hafen 1 location was the Global Top Management Conference (GTMC). Built in only six months, Hafen 1 offers space for events large and small hosted by Volkswagen, the Autostadt or by outside companies.
The Autostadt once again confirmed its leading position as the world’s largest new car delivery centre last year. A total of 148,017 vehicles were handed over to new owners at the CustomerCenter in 2019 (2018: 149,658). Maintaining its substantial 26% market share (2018: 26.1%), the Autostadt delivered more than a quarter of all Volkswagen cars supplied in Germany.
The Autostadt offers a wide range of educational programmes to guests of all ages. Last year for the third time, the extracurricular learning centre attracted more than 500,000 schoolchildren. Most of the participants in 2019 took advantage of the open courses without prior registration. The Engine Technology workshop was one of the most popular bookable courses. At the end of 2019, the Autostadt received the highest award for an exemplary learning centre providing “Education for Sustainable Development” from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German UNESCO Commission.
2019 was also a highly successful year for The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg located in the Autostadt. Occupancy increased significantly to an outstanding 76% in 2019 (2018: 72%). For the eleventh time, Sven Elverfeld and his team from the gourmet restaurant Aqua were awarded the highest rating of three Michelin stars. Aqua also garnered 19.5 Gault-Millau points.
The Volkswagen Brand Experience will be presented at Volkswagen Group headquarters from 27 January to 18 March 2020. Some 17,000 new car dealers from all over the world will visit the Volkswagen factory, Hafen 1 and Autostadt theme park. The main focus is on the Golf 8, ID.3 and new brand design.
Officially opened on 01 June 2000, the Autostadt is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020. Autostadt Managing Director Claudius Colsman: “Visitors can look forward to an action-packed programme of events.”
